(Washington, London = Yonhap News) Correspondent Choi Yoon-jeong and Kang Byeong-cheol = While Ukraine is conducting a counterattack against Russia, President Joe Biden will visit Europe to attend the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO · NATO) summit.
The White House announced on the 2nd (local time) that President Biden will tour the UK, Lithuania and Finland from the 9th to the 13th.
President Biden will first visit the UK to meet with King Charles III and Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
Previously, at the coronation of Charles III in May, President Biden sent his wife, Jill Biden, instead.
President Biden and Charles III will meet at Windsor Palace on the 10th, Buckingham Palace said.
President Biden will then attend the NATO Summit held in Vilnius, Lithuania on the 11th and 12th.
The meeting is attracting attention as it is being held amidst a situation where the war in Ukraine and the internal situation in Russia have become complicated due to the armed rebellion of the Wagner group while Ukraine started a counterattack.
Furthermore, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced that the leaders of the four Asia-Pacific countries (AP4), including South Korea, Japan, Australia and New Zealand, will attend the meeting.
President Biden concludes this trip with a visit to Finland, which joined NATO in April.
