US President Joe Biden is considering whether he will make the next foreign trips, which include the upcoming G7 summit in Japan, in the event that no solution is reached to raise the debt ceiling.
When asked if he would stay in Washington during the G7 summit due to the row over America’s debt ceiling, Biden said Tuesday night that he was still committed to making the trip, but the debt ceiling was “the most important issue.”
However, if the debt default came when Biden was supposed to be abroad, Biden said, “I’m not going. I’m going to stay until it’s done.”
Biden added that he wants to go, but the debt ceiling is “the most important issue.”
A three-day G7 summit is scheduled to be held in Japan on May 19. And warned US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen of the possibility of defaulting on debt repayment by the first of next June.
Biden made it clear that he wants to visit Papua New Guinea after the G7 summit, and then head to Australia to participate in a meeting of the Quad security alliance.
