President Biden attends the White House Correspondents’ Annual Dinner
Disney Attacks Disantis, “Mickey Mouse Strikes Out”
US President Joe Biden, who declared a re-election challenge in the 2024 US presidential election, showed off his humor and joke skills to the fullest on the 29th of last month (local time). It was at the annual dinner for the White House Correspondents. He continued to make remarks against the media and politicians with whom he had a difficult relationship, such as Fox News, former President Donald Trump, Florida Governor Ron Disantis, and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.
President Biden mentioned Fox News, which was critical of the Biden administration, at a dinner event held at a hotel in downtown Washington that day. “This year, I couldn’t resist a free meal because of the $787 million in damages,” he told Fox News reporters at the event. Fox News reported on the fabrication of voting results by Dominion Voting System, a ballot counting machine company, and pointed out the fact that they recently agreed to pay compensation. He also said, “I want to call Fox honest and fair and truthful, but then you could be sued for libel.”
President Biden also did not forget to attack Republicans. He said he was offered $10 to finish his speech in 10 minutes or less. “It has changed direction. He added that the president is being offered money for silence. It is a mockery of former President Trump, who was recently indicted for providing money to silence sexual assault. He also teased former President Trump that he had created 12 million jobs, saying that only lawyers were helping him.
Regarding Governor Disantis, one of the leading Republican candidates for the 2024 presidential election, he said, “I prepared a lot of jokes related to Disantis, but Mickey Mouse hit the player.” It was a remark pointing out the situation of Governor Disantis, who recently suffered a lawsuit with Disney in relation to Disney World in Florida.
Regarding House Speaker McCarthy’s refusal to raise the debt ceiling and Biden’s attempt to pass a bill to cut the budget, President Biden said, “The Republican Party most recently had to try 15 times to pass something this unfortunate.” It reminded me of the fact that House Speaker McCarthy had to vote 15 times in the process of appointing his chairman because he was blocked by hard-liners within the Republican Party.
Regarding his age, which is 81 years old this year, President Biden said, “They say I am old, but I am a veteran. They call me an ancient, but I am wise. They say I’m out of date, but Don Lemon would call me ‘a man in his prime’.” Don Lemon, who was one of CNN’s representative anchors, was recently kicked out of CNN due to sexist remarks that “women’s prime is until their 40s.”
President Biden also urged the release of Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gersikovic, who was detained in Russia, and ended his speech with an appeal to fight for democracy.
The White House Correspondents Dinner, an annual event that started in 1924, invites the incumbent president to listen to a humorous speech, and comedians and others make additional remarks satirizing the president. In 2020 and 2021, it was not held due to the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19) pandemic.
