US President Joe Biden claims that former American leader Donald Trump is ready to sacrifice the country’s democratic system in order to return to power. He expressed this opinion during a speech in Pennsylvania, dedicated to the next anniversary of the storming of the Capitol on January 6, 2021.
“The choice is clear. Donald Trump’s campaign is about himself. Not America, not you. Donald Trump’s campaign is obsessed with the past, not the future. He is willing to sacrifice our democracy to gain power,” Biden said, speaking about the upcoming presidential elections in November.
“Our campaign is different. For me and [вице-президента США] Kamali [Харрис] the campaign is focused on America. It is dedicated to you,” Biden said.
The American leader believes that the people who died in Washington during the riots in January 2021 died “because of the lies of Donald Trump.”
“They died because his lies brought a mob to Washington,” Biden said.
He also recalled the words of Trump, who previously promised not to become a dictator if he wins, “except for the first day.” According to Biden, it is “hard to believe” that Trump could say such a thing.
On January 6, 2021, supporters of Republican Trump, who was then president, broke into the Congress building to prevent the certification of the results of the presidential elections held in November 2020 in the country. Democrat Biden won them. During riots inside the building, police shot and killed a protester. Several other unrelated deaths were recorded and classified as medical emergencies. A Capitol Police officer died after the clashes.
On April 25, 2023, Biden announced that he would seek re-election to the highest government office. Trump announced his entry into the election race in November 2022.
