The president of Guatemala, Bernardo Arévalo de León, He assured that he hopes to receive the Attorney General, Consuelo Porras Argueta, this Wednesday. The official, who tried to prevent her inauguration, was summoned by the president to present a detailed report of her work.
“I think it will come,” Arévalo de León responded to the media. This was when they asked him about Porras’ possible attendance at the National Palace of Culture (government headquarters) for a meeting.

In addition, a group of citizens and civil organizations called for a signature collection to request the resignation of Porras Argueta. The prosecutor is accused internationally of having tried to prevent the investiture of Arévalo de León on January 14.
Arévalo de León confirmed to EFE on January 3 that he will ask for the resignation of the attorney general, whom he publicly accused on September 1, 2023 of directing an attempted “coup d’état” to thwart his unexpected electoral victory.
Since July 12, Porras Argueta and the top prosecutor’s office launched a series of judicial attacks against Arévalo de León and his party, the Semilla Movement.
Arévalo de León assumed the presidency on January 14 with strong international support and support from the country’s indigenous communities, who hope that the president will advance with the promises to fight corruption that fueled his victory at the polls.
