President Alejandro Giammattei extended a formal invitation to the elected authorities to join the government transition process, in a meeting scheduled for next September 4, at 2:00 p.m., at the Presidential Palace.

“After the announcement of the official results of the vote, made by the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE), now the doors are open to an orderly, transparent and, above all, efficient transition,” said the head of state on national television.

September 4 will be the first meeting, informed the president.

This will allow future authorities to undertake, from day one, the tasks that lie ahead and avoid the stagnation of the public administration for the benefit of Guatemalans, he added.

Giammattei stressed that the announced meeting will be supervised by the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro, at the request of the current administration.

Support

The president affirmed that he has the satisfaction of having contributed with all the resources of the Executive Branch, made available to the electoral authorities for the organization of the second round elections, on August 20.

He added that the civic day passed peacefully, with only a couple of insignificant isolated incidents, thanks to the institutionality of the State that coordinated infrastructure for the voting venues.

In addition, he highlighted the accompaniment of the security forces. “Thanks to those thousands of elements of the National Civil Police and the Guatemalan Army, we achieved an orderly, peaceful electoral process and in an environment of peace throughout the national territory,” he pointed out.
