The head of state, Alejandro Giammatteiparticipated yesterday in the rehabilitation and presentation ceremony of the renovated National Museum of Mayan Art of Archeology and Ethnologywhich is located in zone 13 of the capital city.
During his speech, the president highlighted that from 2020 to date the Executive Agency has invested Q187 million in projects to recover and promote the country’s heritage. He stressed the importance of giving arts and culture the place they deserve: “May the next generations spread this legacy.”

The president shared the ceremony with the minister of Culture and SportsFelipe Aguilar, with whom he toured the eight new exhibition rooms, with the aim of learning about the works carried out, among which are: the new interactive museographic script, the drainage and electricity systems, installation of air conditioning, release of stelae and monuments, waterproofing of slabs and wall finishes, among others.
It was reported that these tasks required an execution of more than Q28 million, in charge of said portfolio. The President highlighted the legacy of the museum’s former director, Daniel Aquino Lara, who died last year, whose name the conference room will bear. In addition, he appreciated his efforts “even in his last days. Man who dreamed of his transformation.”
“This cultural venue is a space that shows us as a spectacular country,” said Aguilar. The official cited some works carried out by the current administration: Miguel Ángel Asturias Cultural Center, Germán Alcántara National Conservatory of Music, Theater of Fine Arts, among others.
