President affirmed that the 1944 Revolution in Guatemala is still alive –

Guatemala City/Prensa Latina

President Bernardo Arévalo affirmed today that the 1944 Revolution in Guatemala is still alive and inspires us to continue looking for options to offer a better place to live for everyone.

In a press conference at the National Palace of Culture (headquarters of the Government), the president described October as a key month in the history of the country and that this year they will celebrate the 80th anniversary of that momentous event.

The Revolution of 1944 was a central moment, a starting point for this Central American territory to enter modernity, for the construction of a true democracy, the head of state stressed.

It constitutes – added the 66-year-old politician who turned 66 this very day – the democratic spring, the antecedent of the development of democracy in the country, he remarked.

I have always believed that the nation that does not know its history is condemned to repeat it, reflected the standard bearer of the Semilla Movement party.

That is why it is important to know and understand history, especially the critical moments in which society and its leadership generate opportunities, said the Governor.

Rediscovering our history and taking it as inspiration to set our route to the future is essential, expanded Arévalo, a sociologist by profession and former deputy.

He mentioned his father Juan José (former president of Guatemala from 1945-1951), whose values and examples drive the steps of his administration day by day, he assured.

The Revolution is alive in the struggles waged to protect democracy, those we saw in the students of 1963, in those of 1979, in all the peacemakers, in those in the squares of 2015, in the citizens who protest against the corruption, he asserted.

He highlighted those who put their bodies in 2023 to protect the electoral result and prevent them from stealing what the people opted for in free and open elections.

The Revolution is alive in all the transformation objectives that go towards a country with a fair and inclusive democracy, the President emphasized.

Because the commitment of each and every one of us must be to leave a nation better than the one we found, he commented.

He announced that this month they will celebrate the 1944 Revolution with different activities open to the public.

On the website revolucionviva.com you will be able to see the portfolio of activities with film shows, historical tours, conversations, artistic exhibitions and large musical concerts, the president disclosed.

He invited people to participate in this historical commemoration, because it is a commemoration of the people, of deep love for the country.

May the Revolution remain alive, may the democratic spring remain alive and may we all unite again to create the best route for the well-being of the people of Guatemala, Arévalo concluded.
