Jakarta –
Most of the governors in the West Bank and Gaza Strip were sacked by the President Palestine Mahmoud Abbas. So what is the reason behind the massive layoffs?
Reported Middle East Monitor and Associated PressFriday (11/8/2023), this sweeping sacking was in response to longstanding demands for political overhaul amid widespread frustration with the Palestinian Authority.
The dismissal was through a presidential decree issued by Abbas on Thursday (10/8) local time. The contents of the decree were to dismiss 12 governors in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
“In the Gaza Strip, the Governor of North Gaza, Governor of Gaza, Governor Khan Yunis and Governor Rafah were dismissed by presidential decree,” the official Palestinian news agency reported, HE DIED.
In the West Bank, Abbas ordered the dismissal of the governors of eight provinces, namely the governors of Jenin, the governors of Nablus, the governors of Qalqilya, the governors of Tulkarem, the governors of Bethlehem, the governors of Hebron, the governors of Tubas and the governors of Jericho.
This means that only three regions, including Ramallah, are the center of the Authority Palestinewho retained their governor.
According to the news agency HE DIEDAbbas also released a presidential decree to form a committee entitled to select the governor candidates concerned and recommend the governor candidates to the President Palestine for the final decision.
