The fight to preserve Krefeld’s largest church is entering the decisive phase. On Friday, June 30, at midnight in St. Johann Baptist, as agreed by the diocese and the St. Maria Frieden board responsible for the church (we reported), the church books will be closed. This step is perceived by the community concerned as “thrown out” and vehemently rejected. The board members are convinced that the church could be preserved. They want to fight for their church and will henceforth celebrate mass in a tent in front of the church.
