Preserving Culture: Traditional Games of the Batak People in Indonesia

METROJAMBI.COM – The cultural wealth of various traditional tribes in Indonesia has become a valuable treasure in people’s lives.

Even though there has been progress in the field of technology, preserving culture and traditional games is very necessary to provide historical education to the next generation.

Like the Batak people who live in Sumatra, those who live in rural areas still hold tightly to their ancestral culture, such as traditional games.

Children also play various traditional games, one of which is Pocca Piring. This game is still often found in North Tapanuli district.

Reported by Metrojambi.com from the YouTube channel Muhammad Ami Channel Pocca Piring means Broken Plate.

Through these traditional games, children can practice physical agility, endurance, teamwork, control emotions, improve physical health and stimulate thinking.

Pocca Piring uses a simple tool, namely a ball made of paper with a small stone on the inside. The game can be played on a field with a flat surface.

The number of players must be divided equally into two groups. Before playing, there needs to be an agreement to determine the number of stones used.

Each group has one leader. Then work together with each team member to arrange all the stones in a square as the area of the stones to be arranged.

One group will act as the attacker and the other will be the attacked. The attacked group threw the ball at the stones that were arranged until they became a mess.

The task is to re-arrange the stones while avoiding ball throws from the attacking team.

If the ball successfully hits the body of a member of the opposing team, then the attacking team is the winner.
