Presenter faints at British Prime Minister’s debate, broadcast stopped

Candidate Liz Truss reacted visibly shocked. Rishi Sunak was not in the picture.

At first the debate was interrupted, but later it was decided to stop completely. “Kate McCann fainted during the broadcast tonight and although she is fine, the medical advice was that we should not continue the debate,” the TV station Talktv tweets, that organized the debate together with the newspaper The Sun. “We apologize to our viewers and listeners.”

The loud bang can be heard in the images below:

Presenter Kate McCann presented the live debate on her own after her co-host Harry Cole was forced to stay at home due to a corona infection, reports the British broadcaster BBC. McCann was appointed political editor of Talktv in January this year. She previously worked for the British broadcaster Sky News and the newspapers The Sun and The Daily Telegraph.

Support

The two candidates competing for the British premiership have expressed their support for the presenter via Twitter. “Good that you are already recovering”, says Rishi Sunak, the former Minister of Finance. “Relieved to hear Kate McCann is doing well”, says Liz Truss, the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Both have been selected by the Conservative Party as possible successors to Boris Johnson. They also crossed paths the day before, when in a debate for the British public broadcaster BBC.
