Renze Klamer (35), Tooske Ragas (50) and Herman van der Zandt (50) took the Giro 555 promotion on Wednesday. Bridget Maasland and Rob Goossens know this is a task that not every presenter wants to burn their fingers with. So did Renze, Tooske and Herman. Although… What about being able to say no to a show job? Is that really allowed by contract?

“He didn’t sleep well and called the station in the morning.”

With the day of action, Giro555 wanted to draw attention to ‘all victims of the growing violence in the Middle East’. However, the complex conflict is so sensitive a lot of criticism was up. Could Renze, Tooske and Herman thank them for presenting the broadcast? Well, according to Bridget it’s not that easy.

“That really depends on your contract,” she says of the ability to decline programs. “If you included in your contract that you want to do a certain type of programming and maybe not a certain type of programming, you can say no. But you can also be taken a – into your contract that you can’t say once, for example against a form that is offered, or twice.”

However, Rob reports that there are presenters who work for a company like Talpa, but agree that they do not want to be seen on a certain channel. “So then you sign Talpa up for a program for Net5 first and then you say: ‘I don’t want to work for SBS6’.” According to Rob, this can be ‘very strange. ‘ for a channel, but sometimes it’s really the best option. “At the end of the day, it’s also in the best interest of the channel to preserve a presenter’s reputation. So if those arguments are good, the channel will go with them forever.”

He mentions a ‘recent example of a presenter’, but does not want to ‘name names’. According to Rob, that presenter “became in an unpleasant situation” when he “had already said that he is for a new program”. “The shooting days were planned too. I think it would be wise for all of us if I do this now.” The channel eventually agreed that the presenter was ‘absolutely right’.

Bridget answers confused. “Once there are already shooting days and money already invested, of course a channel is not happy if you say at the last minute: ‘I’m not doing it anyway’. Wasn’t it fine?” According to Rob, that was not the case.
