Ristie made himself hard for the Zuidoost district and the Surinamese community in the city. For example, he was part of the Pa Sem Committee. The organization pays attention to the commemoration of the Bijlmer disaster in 1992. One of the board members was assigned his own bridge in 2017.

June 30 has been the national Day of Consciousness every year since 1993. On the last day of the Keti Koti month, Surinameplein reflects on the common history of the Netherlands, Suriname and the Antilles. Ristie was one of the initiators of the ceremony of awareness. He campaigned for greater awareness of the slavery past. “At school there is very little information about the things that brought these three together,” he told AT5/NH News last year.
From 2010 to 2018 he was a councilor in the district for D66. Among other things, Ristie played an important role in the renewal of the Bijlmermeer. Van Dantzig says he will miss him and wishes the whole family strength: “With a warm heart I think of all those days of campaigning with always a roaring smile and good food.”
