On Sunday 6 November around 50,000 runners, professionals and amateurs, will start 51e New York Marathon.
Since 1970, the first edition that took place only in Central Park with only 170 runners, until today where the 42.195 km course crosses the five “boroughs” of New York, sort of districts, the craze has never stopped growing.
Also this year the marathon is eagerly awaited and if it is likely that record times will not be achieved due to the difficult course, a high-level plateau will start.

Runners to watch at the 2022 New York Marathon
Among the tens of thousands of expected runners, some of the greatest international and Olympic athletes will start with the aim of crossing the finish line, located in Central Park, in the lead.
For women, the reigning world champion Gotytom Gebreslase leads the list of elite athletes. The Ethiopian had won gold at the Eugene Worlds this summer, in 2 h 18 min 11 s, and will look to hang a new prestigious title on her list, after Berlin in 2021.

Former US record holder Keira D’Amato will be at the start, acclaimed by the public generally present in large numbers to encourage the runners. With a best time of 2:19:12, set for January in Houston, the 28-year-old is hoping to join the final fight. She finished 6th in the Berlin Marathon at the end of September.
Aliphine Tuliamukwho had won the Tokyo 2020 Olympic trials before giving up during the Games marathon, will return to the legendary distance.
Sara Sala et Desiree Linden he will also be part of the elite council.
Note that the Puerto Rican Olympic tennis champion in Rio 2016 Monica Puignow retired, and former world record holder Paola Radcliffe will be part of the appetizers.

The Brazilian Daniele Do NascimentoHe will also be present, who dropped out in Tokyo 2020 but finished 8th in the World Championships marathon this season (2:07:35).
The American star Crazy Rupp, who competed in the 2016 Rio Games in the 10,000m (5th) before winning bronze in the marathon, will compete in his first New York marathon. In contrast, the 45-year-old five-time Olympian Abdi Abdirahman will compete in the last race of his career. He ranked 41st in Tokyo 2020.
