The presentation of the first 72 candidates of the “People’s Rally” took place today in the Municipality of Ioannito. Candidates are all athletes who have been tested in competitions alongside the people, for the needs of the people.
The presentation was made by Oli Tsoumani, candidate for Mayor and current councillor, self-employed lawyer, representative of the Ioannina Parents’ Association and former member of the Board of Directors of the Bar Association. The presentation was also attended by Exarchos Nikos, Member of Parliament of the KKE in the Prefecture of Ioannina and Prentzas Giorgos, candidate for Regional Governor of Epirus with the People’s Rally.
Oli Tsoumani called for the strengthening of the “People’s Rally” ballots, stressing that this will mean more elected fighting municipal councilors, who will stand with the people at the front line of their struggle.
Oli Tsoumani emphasized that: “Such a result will be what will count the day after the elections for the large popular majority. In contrast to the above stand the candidates presented and supported by ND, SYRIZA and PASOK, who, after various skirmishes, recycling and mutual support, reveal their strategic alignment. In front of these polls as well, the dilemma is clear: The people will either have more elected representatives than the single bloc formed by the government and the urban parties, their elected representatives in Municipalities and Regions, who together support the very anti-popular framework of the Local Administration or will have more experienced fighters. Only with such elected representatives will the pressure that can be exerted be maximized, so that greater obstacles are placed in anti-popular politics, measures and breaths of relief for the people are detached, necessary measures are taken in Health, Education, sports and other infrastructures. Therefore, against a Local Administration which by its very nature functions as a mechanism for promoting anti-popular politics, for attracting investments, as a tax-inducing mechanism with the cornerstone of “reciprocity” and privatisation, the working people need elected officials who question the heart of this strategy. Who do not hide behind fat words about “visions”, “beautiful cities”, “new beginnings” and other such clichés… On the contrary, they lead the people’s struggle, they call on every worker to make it his criterion that his needs are not met anywhere, with goals such as the above, and that to satisfy them requires conflict with this road, organization and collective assertion. In this way it has been proven that any positive measure for the workers can be extracted. This is the only way the people can stand against today’s and any tomorrow’s government: Together with the KKE, with candidates and combinations of the “People’s Rally”, so that no more lost four years count for the people’s interests in every municipality, in every Region.
To fight optimistically and energetically for our lives, for the future of our children, for the whole people. We invite everyone who does not succumb to exchanges and pressures, who walk with dignity and honesty, who do not seek individual solutions to common problems, who see the perspective and hope for the improvement of everyday life in the collective struggle, in solidarity, in assertion, in consistency , in honesty and we will fight the next battle together”
