On June 8, 2009, the Bulgarian edition of the book “Principality of Bulgaria” by the Croatian geographer Ivan Hoich, published in 1900, was presented at the House of “Mother Croatia” in Zagreb.
The book is part of a five-volume popular science work and is dedicated to Bulgaria at the turn of the 20th century. In his welcoming speech, the ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria in Zagreb, Dr. Ivan Sirakov, expressed his gratitude to the former ambassador of Croatia in Sofia, Dražen Vukov-Tsolić, who is one of the initiators of having the work of the Croatian scientist translated into Bulgarian on the occasion of the entry of our country in the EU. Ambassador Sirakov emphasized that such initiatives contribute to mutual rapprochement between the two peoples and continue the deep twelve-century cultural and historical ties between the two countries. They are especially valuable nowadays, when Bulgaria and Croatia share common Euro-Atlantic values, Ambassador Sirakov pointed out. The former Croatian ambassador in Sofia, Drazhen Vukov Tsolich, also spoke about the book and about the deep roots of Bulgarian-Croatian relations. The Deputy Chairman of Matitsa Hrvatska, Stjepan Suchic, introduced the attendees to an extensive bibliography with over 330 titles, tracing the cultural, historical and literary ties between Bulgaria and Croatia. Guests at the presentation were representatives of the Croatian Academy of Sciences, “Mother Croatia”, cultural and state institutions, students studying Bulgarian at the University of Zagreb and Bulgarians living in Croatia.
