This Tuesday the results of the study were presented “The main indicators of port competitiveness; infrastructure, administration and operation”with the participation of representatives of the Guatemalan Association of Exporters (AGEXPORT), Chamber of Commerce, Chamber of Agriculture (CAMAGRO), AMCHAM and the Center for Economic Research (CIEN).
The experts pointed out that in order to strengthen the country’s competitiveness and capitalize on its privileged geographical position, it is key to ensure the continuity of the effectiveness in cargo handling containerized in Puerto Quetzal (PQ)
According to the study, the level of efficiency of the container terminal, directly impacts the operation of the entire Port, due to the fact that when it becomes congested, loading and unloading get stuck.
In addition, the report indicates that more than half of the ships that transit are container ships.
Hugo Maul, from CIEN, commented that ports that want to innovate and modernize must improve their efficiencies and generate competitive advantages with the main objective of ensuring and increasing flows and cargo volumes, improving performance and reducing berthing times and delays”.
