The offseason is difficult for us because we like the NFL more than any other sport.
When the Cowboys aren’t playing it doesn’t feel normal. We need the consistency that comes with an NFL season with the team playing every week.
The Cowboys started training camp two weeks ago, and while this is great to watch it is different from a game.
This week finally brings a game with the first contest of the preseason. We’ll see the Cowboys (without starters, most likely) playing another team.
I talked about this topic in the latest video on the Blogging The Boys YouTube channel. Subscribe (you can here) to the channel to watch more Dallas Cowboys videos in English and Spanish!
It’s important to set context for this part of the season. Teams are different and these are examples of teams that use preseason differently than others.
Look at these Washington Commanders with the Cowboys’ previous defensive coordinator in Dan Quinn. The Commanders have a rookie quarterback in Jayden Daniels and are reportedly going to let him play in the first game.
We’re entering Mike McCarthy’s fifth season and he hasn’t used many starters in history. The offseason is very long as we said above and it’s arguable that it’s not worth risking an injury with less than a month to go before the regular season.
So as happy as it is to see the Cowboys in a game, we won’t see how they play in Week 1 in Cleveland. But we are thankful that this is a week with a game that we like.
