During their final year, PrepaTec students are assigned the challenge of contributing to the fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goals with the development of a project for the subject of Tutoring and Integral Well-being V.
This in order to promote the value of the human sense and strengthen training skills in students, such as collaboration, personal and social responsibility, creativity and innovation, among others.
Tutor Leticia Szymanzki from Tec campus Tampico explains that the Comprehensive Tutoring System at PrepaTec consists of 3 blocks, one per year.
These blocks are “Me and Tec”, “Me and others” and “Me and my decisions”, all with specific learning approaches.
“The last block is dedicated to promoting projects of social impact, entrepreneurship and self-reflection in the development of Training Competences” – said the tutor Szymanzki.

From this challenge, the students take the reins and lead, monitor and develop a team project to achieve an impact in the community. Here are some of their initiatives:
Community project “Wild Change Tam”
This project consists of the design and development of a line of clothing with the theme of the fauna characteristic of the metropolitan area.
Through these garments, the diversity of species in Tampico is made known and awareness about its conservation is generated.
All the money raised from the sale of these products is donated to COBEA Tamaulipas (Conservators of biodiversity and environmental educators in Tamaulipas).
COBEA is a civil association dedicated to the conservation of wild species and environmental education in the southern part of Tamaulipas and northern Veracruz
PrepaTec project “A la mexicana”
Due to the need for income of Mexican artisans due to the decline in tourism and the economic crisis in the country due to the pandemic, this initiative was developed.
Through their project, the PrepaTec students proposed to adapt the products previously manufactured by artisans such as clothing, tablecloths, among others, for one that is very useful in the current context of COVID-19, such as face masks.
The initiative supports artisan families in the community with the redesign of a good business model, as well as the sale, promotion and distribution of the product.
This is how “A la mexicana” helps to support families dedicated to Mexican crafts and embroidery, as well as promoting the use of face masks.
“Creating Links”, among other projects
In this project, the students raised funds for the purchase of woven bracelets from street vendors on Miramar beach in Tampico, affected by the decline in tourism during the pandemic.
Later, these bracelets were resold to donate all the proceeds to the CRIT Tampico, a rehabilitation center for children with different abilities in the community and surroundings.
The Tec, being an institution committed to the practice of the human sense, Leticia Szymanzki shares that the best way to sympathize with this value is teaching through real situations.
