Cardinal Mario Graeke, Curator of the General Office of the Synod, said that the 16th Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops was a spiritual event of prayer and spiritual listening. He said this in a letter given on Thursday, September 14 (14/09/23) to Catholic bishops and dioceses around the world in the context of the synod meeting that will begin on October 4 at the Vatican.
In his letter, Cardinal Gray explains that the Synod does not exist without prayer, and that prayer is the cure that enables us to break free from our own closure and to rediscover God’s ongoing work in the Church.
As an aid to this prayer, the General Office of the Synod has prepared an appropriate prayer for the concluding liturgy of the Holy Mass on Sundays.
The cardinal’s letter explains that this prayer can take many forms, such as listening to the Word, adoration, and turning the heart’s perspective from sorrow to wonder at what God is saying to the Church.
