The world must prepare and adapt for more extreme temperatures, experts say.
The heat that covered the South of Europe and some other corners of the planet in July is not the limit. Meteorologists urge the world to prepare for even more extreme temperatures and warn that anomalies will be observed not only during the daytime, but also at night, which creates additional risks to human health.
This is discussed in press release World Meteorological Organization.
Experts predict that at night the minimum temperature will reach new highs, and explain what is the danger of such a situation. The fact is that after a hot day, the human body must recover at night, but in conditions of constantly recurring high temperatures at night this will not happen, which means that the risk of heart attacks increases.
It is the high nighttime temperatures, and not the heat of the day, that are the most dangerous. Vulnerable populations are especially at risk, the WMO said.
In this regard, the organization urges humanity to prepare and adapt to abnormal heat. In particular, we are talking about preparing homes and workplaces for extreme temperatures.
Recall that the cause of abnormal heat in the south of Europe was the anticyclones “Cerberus” and “Charon”, which brought hot air from Africa. Meteorologists do not rule out new temperature records here.
Earlier it was reported that in the first decade of July, the world experienced the hottest week ever recorded. At the same time, scientists predict even more powerful heat waves and call for measures aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere.
In addition, the world expects temperature records caused by the start of the action. phenomenon El Nino.
