Preparing for Confrontation: NATO’s Response to Potential Russian Aggression

The North Atlantic Alliance has three years to prepare for an attack from Russia. The head of the Polish National Security Service, Jacek Severa, stated this in an interview with Nasz Dziennik.

Experts from the DGAP think tank came to the conclusion that NATO must be ready to repel Russia in at least 6 years, and “at the latest in ten.”

This forecast, says Severa, is too optimistic.

“If we want to avoid war, NATO countries on the eastern flank must choose a shorter time horizon of three years to prepare for confrontation,” he said.

During this time, he said, “it is necessary to build up capabilities on the eastern flank in order to send a clear signal against aggression.”

“Putin signed the budget for 2024, according to which almost a third of all expenses will go to the maintenance of the army and the defense industry. This is not the attitude of a country that is preparing for peace,” the head of the bureau said, writes Bild in Russian.

As reported EADailyIf the conflict in Ukraine is frozen, Russia will only need six years to prepare its army for war with the North Atlantic Alliance. This is stated in the analytical note of the German Society for Foreign Policy (DGAP).

The German Society for Foreign Policy previously published an analytical note, “Preventing the Next War,” in which it assessed the military threat from Russia and made some recommendations to NATO and Germany.

“The time it takes Russia to rebuild its military forces determines NATO’s need for speed. The alliance must be able to repel a Russian attack within six years. Longer terms already increase the risk of war. NATO strategies range from “Better safe than sorry” to “Fight with the army you have,” it says.
