Preparing for a Wet and Windy Weekend in Bergen

There is a lot of bad weather ahead, but nothing we Bergens aren’t used to.

Forecasts far into the future are uncertain, but Ingrid Halland Soldal at the Meteorological Institute predicts rain and a good deal of wind until Sunday.

– On Thursday morning we will get the remnants of the low pressure that came in during the night to Wednesday. There will be a strong gale in the afternoon with a fresh breeze in the evening, she says.

Thunderstorms on Friday

The whole week looks quite wet, and the meteorologist has little surprising to say. There will be rain and wind of varying strength.

On Friday, heavier rain showers and thunder are expected during the evening.

– There is a lot of bad weather ahead, but it might get a little better on Saturday, says Halland Soldal.

This will not last long before another low pressure arrives on Sunday and then there will be another round of precipitation.

The low pressure brings cool air with it which causes the temperature to drop.

– Now it is around 16 degrees, but at the end of the week it could be 10 or 11 degrees, she says.

Usual amount of rain

According to Halland Soldal, this is normal September weather and an indication that it is autumn.

On Thursday, around 20 millimeters of rain will fall in the Bergen area. Something more is expected on Friday.

– A little further inland there is a greater amount of precipitation, but there are no extreme values either, says the meteorologist.
