These are some of the recommendations that the ANWB gives to departing holidaymakers. From this weekend, after the middle, the south of the country will also have a holiday and many people will travel by car.
Sufficient drinking water
Temperatures are rising sharply, especially in Spain, Portugal and Italy, we wrote earlier this week. According to an ANWB spokesperson, it is wise not to set the air conditioning in the car too cold. “Otherwise you get such a hit from the heat when you step outside,” she says.
Temperatures above 40 degrees are expected in southern Europe in the coming days. Residents and tourists have a hard time with it, as this video shows:
The ANWB advises everyone to be well prepared, with sufficient drinking water, but also to check in advance whether the car is ready for the journey. “And those traveling with children can place sunshades in front of the windows.”
Crowded roads
It is expected to be very busy on the roads to the south of Europe next weekend. The ANWB advises holidaymakers not to leave at 03:00, but to wait until after breakfast.
“Otherwise you will be driving on the most popular holiday routes at the busiest time of the day, between noon and 3 pm,” says the spokeswoman. “If you leave around 09:00, you avoid the longest traffic jams.”
Earlier, emergency centers of the ANWB, SOS International and Eurocross reported that they have not yet seen a large increase in the number of reports from Dutch holidaymakers in Southern Europe who are experiencing problems from the extreme heat.
