Preparatory Work for A10 South Tunneling Project Begins: Clearing Subsoil and Removing Grout Anchors

Although the tunneling of the A10 South for the Zuidasdok project will only start in a few years’ time, preparatory work is already taking place. This is a test to see how the subsoil can best be cleared.

A construction company writes down Facebook that obstacles such as cables, pipes and grout anchors (a tension element consisting of a high-quality steel rod) must be removed. Next to the World Trade Center, about 200 of those grout anchors are now in the ground.

“We have begun a trial to determine the best and fastest means of disposal,” the company writes. “The intention is to remove the rest of the grout anchors at the beginning of 2024.”

Tendering for the tunnel began in July, and a maximum of three builders will be selected sometime this month for further talks. According to the current planning, the intention is to start construction of the tunnel in 2027, which should be completed by 2034 at the latest.
