Head of the West Jakarta Health Service, Erizon Safari, confirmed that he had prepared a number of things necessary regarding the release Aedes Aegypti Wolbachia mosquito which is said to be able to reduce the outbreak of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF).

A number of preparations are mainly training for officers in the field, community health centers and sub-districts.

“Right now we are still in the preparation stage. We are carrying out job training for field officers, job training for officers at community health centers, sub-districts and others, that’s all,” said Erizon when contacted, Wednesday (22/11).

According to Erizon, his party is still continuing to educate the public about the Wolbachia mosquito.

He also confirmed that there were no significant obstacles before releasing the mosquitoes. However, Erizon cannot confirm when the Wolbachia mosquitoes were distributed in his area.

The city government, he said, is waiting for a decision from the government, the Ministry of Health, approval from the Provincial Government and the Mayor of West Jakarta.

“There are no significant obstacles yet, however, it still requires outreach to the community,” said Erizon.

Coordinator of larva monitoring (Jumantik) in the North Kembangan area, West Jakarta, Maharani said that 11 points had been prepared for placing Wolbachia mosquito eggs.

One of the points is on Jalan H Mandor Ramin. Maharani said the egg placement point was far from residents’ homes.

“It’s 70 meters from the house, it can’t be exposed to the sun.” Maharani said.

At these points, buckets containing eggs are prepared which will be left for two weeks until the eggs hatch into Wolbachia mosquitoes.

Every two weeks the buckets will be replaced with new buckets containing Wolbachia eggs.

“It is controlled once every two weeks, for six months. The experiment is like that, hopefully there will be no dengue fever.” Maharani said.

Socialization regarding the Wolbachia mosquito was carried out directly to the community through the help of local Jumantik cadres.

Maharani claimed that residents welcomed the plan to spread the Wolbachia mosquito. Even so, there are still concerns from the public about these mosquitoes.
