Preparation will begin this Wednesday, August 16 for the GUC-SMH rugby players. Indeed, under the direction of the duo Philippe Meunier and Eric Ferruit, nearly 60 licensees will be on deck in order to best prepare for the 2023-2024 season. It will start on Sunday September 17 with a derby against the neighbors of Vaulnaveys-Vizille. This poster is already salivating with pleasure from the unconditional supporters of both camps.

“It is on the ground that we will have to show our know-how”

“It’s a season that promises to be exciting, comments one of the presidents Jean-Louis Prat. With nearly five derbies, spectators will be very numerous around the pitches throughout the season. Indeed, the regional 1 championship brought together in the same group this season the formation of Izeaux (relegated from federal 3), the teams of La Mure, Vif-Monestier, Vaulnaveys-Vizille or even La Motte-Servolex. Tempting posters and a beautiful spectacle in perspective.

“It will be a demanding championship, continues the president. Obviously all the teams have strengthened well. This is also the case for us, with the arrival of excellent players, most of them from federal level 3. If we want to be ambitious, we will have to show a lot of humility. On paper, we have quality, of course, but it will be on the ground that we will have to show our know-how. Initially, the objective will be to ensure maintenance as soon as possible, then to try to play the spoilsport afterwards. »

“Reaching the federal level is in the back of our minds”

For the coming year, Philippe Meunier will be supported by Eric Ferruit, a former hooker from the heyday of FC Grenoble. An additional asset for the Grenoble-Martiné club which wants to continue its ascent.

“We still want to grow, without cutting corners,” breathes Jean-Louis Prat. Reaching the federal level in the near future is in the back of our minds. We are working for this, we are moving forward slowly, slowly but surely. »

In order to be at the top on D-Day, in addition to the three or four weekly sessions, the group will have three friendly meetings. They will all take place on Friday evening, opposite Voiron II, Tullins and Chartreuse-Néron (Saint-Égrève). On September 17, it will then be time to put on the overalls, in order to start a season that promises to be exciting.
