Preparation for Community Service Activities

Degenerative diseases or non-communicable diseases (PTM) are diseases that are not caused by infection with microorganisms such as protozoa, bacteria, fungi, or viruses. This type of disease is responsible for at least 70% of deaths in the world. Even though it cannot be transmitted from person to person or from animal to person, weak control of risk factors can affect the increase in cases every year.

According to WHO, the increase in non-communicable diseases is mainly driven by four main risk factors, namely unhealthy eating patterns, lack of physical activity, tobacco use, and harmful use of alcohol. Non-communicable diseases have disastrous health consequences for individuals, families and communities, and threaten health systems. The large socio-economic costs caused by NCDs make prevention and control of this disease an important matter at this time

This is what encourages community service activities with the aim of increasing knowledge of the elderly about degenerative diseases. This community service activity was carried out on July 15 2023 located at the Bumiaji Health Center which has a prevalence of hypertension of 10,110 people. Of course, the target in this activity is the elderly who are registered as prolanis participants at the Bumiaji Health Center in Batu City.
