Yu Shoaliang, editor-in-chief of the People’s Daily newspaper, made the announcement during the opening of the second meeting of that entity which takes place from Beijing in a virtual and face-to-face format.
Prensa Latina was chosen to be a medium of international prestige and importance and within the board it will participate in the provisions of Red de Noticias, founded in 2017 and currently made up of 218 organizations from 101 countries around the world.
Subsequently, its president, Luis Enrique González, will address the meeting via video link from that entity’s headquarters in Havana, Cuba.
The Council is led by People’s Daily and held its first session in April 2019 with representatives from 40 media organizations from twenty countries.
Its leader, People’s Daily chairman Tuo Zhen, presented the results of the work done in recent years, highlighted the coordination among members, and mentioned among future plans to hold forums, visits and other projects to expand exchanges between journalists from around the world
During the ceremony, Red de Noticias presented its Silk Road Global News Awards for the first time and, among them, awarded one to Prensa Latina correspondent, Yolaidy Martínez.
The journalist participated in the Insights category with the article “Belt and Road, roads that expand from China”, written about the second international summit of the homonymous project, held in April 2019.
In addition to this material, an audiovisual on the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic in the Asian giant also competed for the prize, prepared by the team of journalists of Prensa Latina Televisión, made up of Iramsy Peraza and Lonny López.
The works of 4,485 professionals from 80 countries competed for this international award in the Insight, Commentary, Photography, Video, Special Contribution and Short Video sections on the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
With the establishment of the awards, the News Network intends to promote mutual knowledge among the media of the 149 countries adhering to the Belt and Road initiative, born in 2013 and called to build an international mega-platform of cooperation and exchange under the principle of shared income.
