Přemysl Rabas won in Chomutovsk — ČT24 — Czech Television

In the Chomutov district, Přemysl Rabas (SEN 21) will be a senator again, he won 52.95 percent of the votes. The second Jaroslav Komínek (KSČM) received 47.04 percent of the votes. Approximately 13.57 percent of voters took part in the second round of elections, 23.35 percent voted in the first one a week ago. Thanks to the defense of Rabas’s mandate, the senatorial club SEN 21 and Pirates will probably be preserved with a minimum number of five members.

In the first round, Rabas won 20.73 percent of the votes, Komínek 23.33 percent of the votes. In the Chomutov district, seven candidates strove for the senatorial post this year.

“I will not run for office in six years, these were my last elections in my life, I think one needs to gain some distance and focus on family, for example,” Rabas was heard to say. “It would be good to pay more attention to our region, which the government does not give it, and we will try to do that now,” he added.

According to Rabas, the result was closer than six years ago, when he defeated the ANO candidate by twelve percent. “It was a pleasant surprise for me. I myself thought in the last few days that it would turn out worse, I was led to this by the anti-campaign that was going on, which was not entirely fair,” he said. According to him, low voter turnout is standard in senate elections. “It is one of the tasks of us politicians to explain to the public that the Senate is an extremely important organization for balancing mistakes, excesses, mistakes or bad intentions,” said Rabas.

Rabas believes that the results of the senate elections in general are a certain business card of the government, “which sometimes did the necessary work, but some decisions were unfortunate and some were poorly communicated.” He went on to say that “abolishing the super gross wage was a big mistake that blew a huge hole in the budget. Then the government patches it up in not entirely happy ways. That distracted the voters, and I think that’s one of the main reasons for how the election turned out.”

In 2018, Rabas won in Chomutov. He won 62.52 percent of the vote in the second round. Martina Chodacká (for ANO) finished second. Nine candidates took part in the election.
