Premiere of the drama American Bison / Day in the May repertoire of Valmiera Theater

David Matthew in his play American bison depicts three little scammers who plan to steal an old coin collection, dreaming of a lucrative business, but do not expect their imaginary business model to be a test of their friendship. As one of the heroes says to his youngest friend, “There is business and there is friendship,” two worlds that, unfortunately, cannot always coexist.

The play was first staged in 1975 (winning the Drama Critics Association Award for Best American Play), and in 1977 reached Broadway. The reviews were very positive, with many critics praising Mamet’s ability to capture the ambiguity of American everyday speech – “Mamet is a man worth listening to. He is a rare bird – an American playwright whose language is the main language in his plays.”

The creative team of the show also includes scenographer Mārtiņš Vilkārsis, costume designer Ilze Vītoliņa, lighting artist Gatis Priednieks – Melnacis.

Cast: Aksels Aizkalns, Rūdis Bīviņš or Artis Jančevskis, Kārlis Freimanis.

May’s repertoire also includes performances Late love, All good things, We, rock, sex and the USSR, Who’s afraid of Virginia Wolf ?, Calendar calls me, Flaming Darkness, I’m not a piano a My father is Peter Penn. The full May repertoire is available and tickets can be purchased www.vdt.lv and in all Ticket paradises at the box office.
