The production of Māra Zālīte’s play “Smiļģis” directed by Viesturs Kairītis has premiered at the Daile Theater, reports TV3 Ziņas.
“Smiļģis” is the central and most ambitious production of Daile Theater this season directed by Viesturs Kariss. Due to the pandemic, the premiere with the audience was postponed for nine months. Vaccination against Covid-19 allows each seat to be sold out.
The image of Eduards Smiļģis is played by six actors who are on the stage at the same time. Each of them expresses the contradictory thoughts of this theatrical genius, very rapidly changing moods, the deepest psychological cacti. The six actors forming one image must not have a relaxation for three hours, because the texts have to follow each other in a flash like a bubbling cauldron. Only this can detect the currents of Smilg’s temperament.
The youngest actor of Smiļģis on stage is actor Kārlis Arnolds Avots.

“It was such an unusual setting, and I don’t think any of us actors, despite being younger or experienced, have ever encountered this type and form. Smilgis is so unusual that to get closer to his essence, you have to look radical, extreme and unusual. ”
–
To create the Daile Theater, Smiļģis tears himself up. Private life is depicted in a storm, including love affairs.
However, his fateful women feel, as the playwright Māra Zālīte has dressed in her words – the cleaners of sick souls. She does not want it, but for Smilgi theater and the desire for innovative ideas, the size of the breath is more important than everyday life.
Māra Zālīte spent three years writing the play. A lot of time was spent in the archives, searching for new or hitherto less known facts about Smilgi, which are instilled in the already known theater legends.

“Smile himself is already telling a little bit about their form – no dusty realism, no small everyday life, just big lines, big ideas, rainy thoughts.”
–
Zālīte praises the director of the show Viesturs Kairišs, the ensemble of actors and stage artists, because what he saw is an explosion of emotions.

“I say those words really rarely, but I’m happy tonight.”

And so is the director of Daile Theater Juris Žagars, who spent part of the show with wet eyes. The performance of colleagues on stage was called a damn good performance, which would make Smiļģis himself proud.-

“Theater then and theater are completely different things now, because people’s perception and attitude towards theater is completely different. The only thing Daile Theater should keep from Smilģis’ time is unaccustomedness and madness, which sometimes the National Theater cannot afford. ”
–
It is not just a great biographical message, but a drama of ideas. And even those who know nothing about Smiļģis will taste it. Smiļģa knew about the premiere.
“It seems to me that this impression must also be so chaotic, a little confusing, contradictory, vague. There are many good qualities in that portrait, but the overall impression is honest and confusing, ”says Toms, the visitor of the premiere of” Smiļģis “.
“I don’t know if this is what Smiļģis understood as a modern view, because for him the performances were very beautiful, as we have read. This is modern, modern for our times. Māra Zālīte has pulled out a lot of things that we did not allow to learn about Smiļģis or Rainis at the time, very interesting, ”says Anita, the premiere of“ Smiļģis ”premiere.
Viewers expressed their applause and applause at sea for many minutes.
