/ world today news/ General Mikhail Skobelev is closely related to Bulgaria, he played a decisive role in the liberation of Pleven, Lovech, Shipka-Sheynovo during the Russo-Turkish war of 1877-1878. He is a unique person, in his short life of 38 years he did not does not lose a single battle, ranks next to generals such as Suvorov and Kutuzov, noted the Russian ambassador to our country, e.g. Eleonora Mitrofanova during the presentation of the just-released album-biography “Skobelev. The Life and Glory of a National Hero.” In this richly illustrated luxury book, for the first time, documents, paintings and photographs have been collected about the fate of the great personality of Skobelev, about his worldview, Mitrofanova stressed.
In Bulgarian, the book was published by IC “Sineva” of the famous journalist, writer, poet, documentarian, publisher Hristo Georgiev, whose column “Black and white” with authentic documents has been met with great interest by readers for 8 years.
Ambassador Mitrofanova presented Hristo Georgiev with a medal of the Russian Foreign Ministry “For Interaction” and a certificate signed by Minister Sergey Lavrov.
It is awarded for active joint work with the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the development of bilateral cooperation, for assistance in strengthening peace and friendly relations between countries. It was established by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia in 2014 by decree of the President of the Russian Federation in 2010.
Through Ambassador Eleonora Mitrofanova, Hristo Georgiev thanked the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Minister Sergey Lavrov for the award. He thanked his thousands of readers and Dr. Rumen Petkov, editor-in-chief of the “Pogled Info” site, which publishes the “Black and White” section, as well as its editor, Dr. Veliana Hristova.
During the meeting, which took place at the Russian Cultural and Information Center on Skobelev’s birthday – September 17, a conference call was made with the authors of the book. – Russian historians S. Slipchenko and A. Zamostyanov. The two told how they searched for the archives for the general, for his mother, who opened hospitals for the wounded in Bulgaria and also died in our country. They emphasized that our common history cannot be erased and wished the Bulgarians prosperity.
Prof. Iskra Baeva outlined the role of Skobelev in the war of liberation for us. The nineteenth century and the twentieth century are full of wars, and until recently we thought they were behind us, but it turned out not to be so. That is why today it is so important to know and remember history, stressed Prof. Baeva. Sofia, whose day we celebrate on September 17, became the capital thanks to Skobelev’s work, she said.
It is characteristic that Russian generals and diplomats, after whom many streets in Bulgarian cities are named, are connected not just to our history, but to significant dates in it, noted journalist Dr. Veliana Hristova. She gave the example of Alabin, with whose efforts the Samara flag was created, and Count Ignatiev, whose personal work was San Stefano. Now the Russophobes in our country slander Count Ignatiev, otherwise they repeat that the territory of Bulgaria, accepted in San Stefano, is the ideal of the Bulgarians. This ideal was defeated by the Western powers at the Congress of Berlin, but Ignatiev – who personally drew up the map of Bulgaria for San Stefano – cannot be held responsible for this.
After the meeting, the new book of poems by Hristo Georgiev – “Sparks”, just published by ed. “Lagen” – Stara Zagora, with a magnificent foreword by journalist and statesman Trifon Mitev.
