Premiere in remedial care

Saarbrücken. Premiere in special education nursing in Saarland: The first year of practice-integrated training (PiA) has started at SHG Bildung. At the beginning of September, 23 technical students began their three-year training on the Saarterrassen, announced administrative manager Dagmar Girlinger.

What’s special about this is that the technical students now also receive a training allowance, in this case around 1,100 euros, as was introduced a few years ago, similar to the teacher training. The state government has created the conditions for a total of 27 refinanced school places and a new examination regulation in special education.

In 2021, the technical college students had already taken to the streets and protested for better training conditions, reported technical college director Marion Hoff-von Loßberg. What makes the profession attractive? “Special education nursing is characterized by its diversity. In addition to providing individual support to people, it also advocates for fairer conditions in social policy terms,” says Hoff-von Loßberg.

Special education nursing always means recognizing potential and, based on this, encouraging and supporting development processes. “Special education nursing stands for an inclusive society in all fields of work, in particular by giving people with special needs an audible voice.” The profession offers a wide range of fields of work and career opportunities. After completing the training, the title of Bachelor Professional in Social Work (DQR 6) is awarded.

During the training, the students can gain experience in different areas, such as in day care centers, daycare centers, psychiatric day clinics or in workshops and apartments for disabled people. The collaboration with 17 cooperation partners enables a wide range of possible assignments. The technical students are accompanied by lecturers and learning companions from the SHG Bildung. They offer a variety of methods and practical experience in order to make the lessons varied.

Short-term registrations are still possible for this school year: SHG Bildung, Technical School for Special Education, Konrad-Zuse-Straße 3a, 66 115 Saarbrücken; Marion Hoff-von Loßberg; [email protected]; Tel. (0681) 8 70 09 14
