Premiere for Switzerland – Federal President Amherd in Mongolia

Amherd traveled to the Mongolian capital Ulan Bator to mark the 60th anniversary of bilateral relations between the two countries. Amherd’s Department of Defense, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS) announced this on Friday.

A declaration of intent was also signed with the aim of strengthening democratic institutions in Mongolia. According to the communiqué, the successes achieved were also discussed at the meeting.

The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC)’s involvement in Mongolia will end in this form after 20 years, the DDPS wrote. Switzerland will continue some of the activities from its embassy in Beijing.

The security situation in East Asia and Europe was also discussed. According to the statement, Amherd explained Switzerland’s commitment to a just and lasting peace in Ukraine.

The Federal President’s programme also included meetings with Prime Minister Luvsannamsrain Oyun-Erdne and with Parliament Speaker Dashzegviin Amarbaysgalan, it was further stated. From Mongolia, Amherd will travel on to Japan, where Prime Minister Fumio Kischida and Emperor Naruhito will receive her.
