With the smart markets, MediaMarktSaturn is launching a new format with small stores in central locations. Stores are scheduled to open in five locations this year.
MediaMarkt Smart is now also being rolled out in the German market. The first four stores at former Gravis locations will open on November 14th in Heidelberg, Cologne, Leipzig and Munich, followed by Hamburg on December 16th. The first market started as a pilot project in Berlin-Friedrichshain in the summer, and the format already exists in Spain and Italy.
The Smart format consists of compact stores with a maximum area of 400 square meters in highly frequented locations. One focus is on services such as attaching display glasses or simple repairs to the Smart Bar. Products can also be rented through partner Grover or purchased through Foxway.
Omnichannel offerings also play a major role. The range available in the store is reduced to high-quality products and accessories for urgent needs; The entire online shop can be accessed via large touchscreens. Anyone who buys online can pick up their orders there or also make returns. In the future, there will also be immediate delivery within 90 minutes with Uber.
“Our motto is: the right format in the right place. With the smart stores, we are specifically targeting technology-loving customers who are traveling nearby,” explains Hubert Kluske, Managing Director Sales MediaMarktSaturn Germany. “The focus is on services that can be used quickly and conveniently. Our smart stores also act as a collection and return point for online orders. With this format, we clearly want to promote the omnichannel experience and position ourselves as a trustworthy partner close to the customer.”
