Premier League wants to publish VAR agreement on YouTube

In the English Premier League there are plans to publish the conversations between referees and video assistants. As the newspaper “Times” reports, the discussions that take place during a game about decisions via video evidence are to be made accessible to the public after the final whistle. Audio recordings on YouTube are intended to increase the transparency of referee decisions.

Premier League boss Richard Masters told the Times there was “broad support” for the idea. The procedure is already common in US Major League Soccer. According to the report, the previous head of MLS referees, Briton Howard Webb, is about to return to the Premier League, where he is to take over the management of referees in the future.

Even in the Bundesliga, the video referee is not without controversy. One point of criticism from fans in Germany is that despite the new technology, wrong decisions are regularly made. Especially for many fans in the stadium, the video referee is a thorn in the side.
