Former Paris SG coach Thomas Tuchel has been officially appointed coach of Chelsea Tuesday after signing an 18-month contract, the Blues announced.
Removed from his post at PSG just before Christmas, the German succeeds Frank Lampard at the head of a team which occupies the 9e place in the English Championship, four points from qualifying places for the Champions League.

A one and a half year contract
Thomas Tuchel signed a one and a half year contract with the London club. He inherits one of the best squads in Europe, notably with players such as Timo Werner, Ngolo Kanté, Hakim Ziyech, Hudson Odoi and Mason Mount.
The 47-year-old coach will also reunite with Thiago Silva, his former captain at Paris Saint-Germain. “It’s never easy to change coaches in the middle of the season. but we are very happy to have attracted one of the best coaches in Europe in the person of Thomas Tuchel ”, welcomed the general manager of the club Marina Granovskaïa. “There are still a lot of challenges and goals to achieve for this season and beyond”, she added.
He will be on the bench for the game of the 20e day tomorrow against Wolverhampton. Chelsea will face Atlético Madrid in 8e first leg of the Champions League on February 23.
