The Premier League recommended that Everton be subject to a 12-point deduction for breaching financial rules.
Everton charged with FFPL violations The Premier League recommends heavy penalties. These sanctions could result in the Toffees being relegated
WHAT HAPPENED? The club was charged with alleged FFP breaches in March after recording losses of £371.8m over the past three years. Clubs are only allowed to make a maximum loss of £105m in that time, according to financial rules. An independent commission is currently hearing the Toffees’ case and will announce its results later this year which could see the club receive a 12-point deduction if found guilty, according to the Telegraph.
SEVERE PUNISHMENT: The Premier League has recommended Everton be given a “very severe” punishment which could have serious consequences. Sean Dyche’s side narrowly avoided relegation on the final day of last season and currently sit 16th in the standings, just three points away from the relegation zone. Therefore, a significant points deduction could leave the club with a mountain to climb to avoid relegation to the Championship. This story takes place at a time when Everton is in the midst of a takeover by US investment firm, 777 partners. Owner Farhad Moshiri has agreed to sell his 94.4% stake but there are doubts whether the deal will go ahead.
