The situation around goalkeeper Martin Dúbravka has radically changed. Newcastle United have decided to recall their star player from rivals Manchester United, and it is now debatable whether the Slovakian representative will stay with the “magpies” or leave again. As we have learned, there are several variations to the game.
Famous engagement Manchester United terminated after four months. Newcastle United he decided to use the part in Dúbravka’s loan deal and brought him back to the club. However, he doesn’t end there. The Slovakian goalkeeper still doesn’t have the necessary security in his hands and it’s not excluded that he could start again during the January transfer market.
“Maťa’s loan deal, with the option of a permanent move, also had a clause included in the deal at Newcastle’s request meaning he can retire mid-season. Newcastle eventually cashed in on that point. They didn’t It was a big surprise from our point of view because we knew it could happen as he had an early release clause in his contract.” said for SPORT.sk Dubravka player representative David Zika from GLOBAL Sports.
“We all felt his situation at the club wasn’t exactly ideal, which was ‘helped’ by the fact that David de Gea came on in great form. Maťo is a ‘match’ goalkeeper who wants to take and be on the pitch. ”, explains Zíka further.
In Newcastle there was no satisfaction for German Loris Karius, and this was also one of the reasons why Martin Dúbravka is returning to St. Giacomo Park.
“It’s also true that Newcastle are playing at the top of the competition again after many years and need to have quality in every position, including goalkeeper, where they want to have the position strengthened and doubled. We also perceive it from this point of view. Nick Pope and Martin Dúbravek can form an excellent tandem. We’ll see what else happens.” David Zika said. By the way, Karius has closed with Newcastle since 1 January 2023.
Leicester is not excluded, nor are other possibilities
Returning to Newcastle, Martin Dúbravka didn’t help himself much, having very strong competition in the person of the aforementioned Nick Pope. At the same time, his range of options to play for the Magpies has narrowed further, as he cannot play for Newcastle in the League Cup.
He has already played for Manchester United this season and, according to FA rules, cannot play for another team in the current League Cup season. Therefore, it is not excluded that Martin Dúbravka will eventually move.
“Yes, from this point of view, there is also the option of a transfer or loan to another club. Since he has not played in any competitive matches for Newcastle, there is still the possibility of going to another club and take it”. Zika continues.
“We, as agents, will work so that Maťo has the best possible opportunities ahead of him and can start. We know very well that Nick Pope is number one in Newcastle and the League Cup is already closed for Mať this season. We will try to be active and we have a full month to do so. If an interesting possibility arises, we will certainly consider it. Also, there is still the possibility that Maťo will finish the season in Newcastle.” says the Czech soccer agent.
During the summer transfer window, the name of the Slovakian goalkeeper’s team was associated with the English one Leicester Citywho lost longtime support and icon Dan late last year Kaspera Schmeichela. The ex-captain of the “foxes” headed to the French OGC Nice.
According to multiple reports from England, Newcastle are expected to have Leicester’s playboy on their radar James Maddison and a midfielder Yuriho Tielemansa. ‘The Magpies’ interest has reportedly not waned and Martin Dúbravka could play a key role in the whole process. However, the Zíkov family, representing the 33-year-old from Žilina, are cautious.
“We don’t have any news yet. It’s just the beginning of the year, so everything is just starting and the situation around Maťa is very fresh. Of course, it’s a possibility that can ‘wake up’. After all, Manchester United were also just a speculation over the summer and it finally came true.” points out.
“The month of transition will be long and anything can happen. We are used to the fact that in Mať’s case things can take a surprising turn. Even somewhere you don’t expect it at all. It is important for us that Maťo is among the first 5 European competitions and have the opportunity to start regularly.” added for SPORT.sk David Zika.
According to our information, Martin Dúbravka is also ready to leave England after six years and accept a challenge from another country, for example from Italy, France or Germany. For now, his situation is not yet clear.
The fact is that Newcastle United have taken the Slovakian back and next month will show whether they will continue to count on him or whether Dúbravka will decide for a new and different chapter in his career. His contract with Newcastle expires in the summer of 2025.
