Premier League, Manchester United | Solskjær talks about the disappointment:

Ole Gunnar Solskjær is now determined to lead Manchester United to the club’s first title since 2017.

Ole Gunnar Solskjær and Manchester United kick off their Premier League season when Leeds are opponents at Old Trafford on Saturday.

After Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane have been brought in from Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid respectively during the summer, there is budding optimism around the club.

However, Solskjær is constantly reminded that last season ended in a trophy and with a loss in the Europa League final against Villarreal.

– Woke up with a terrible feeling

In a recent interview with Sky Sports before the start of the series, the Norwegian talks about the disappointment.

– It’s a match we should have won. It was one shot on goal against us, so it’s not like we were run over, but it has nothing to say now. The result was as it was.

– I woke up with a terrible feeling the next morning. It’s something you do not want to feel. You do not want to lose finals or big matches. At least I was made that way, and now I am even more determined to do well, says Solskjær to the channel.

Four years have passed since the last time Manchester United lifted a trophy and now Solskjær is determined to lead the club to a new title, but he knows it will cost.

– If you want to be the best, you have to live like the best. You have to work as the best and perform every three days. It will be tough, but it is entirely possible, says Solskjær.

– We were very bad at home

The United manager believes he sees progress in several parts of the club.

– I see progression in the coaching staff, in the squad, in the club and how we do things, but we have not won anything yet. That’s what we’re going to do at Manchester United. I’m used to winning. When I was here as a player, we ended up as number three once and either as number one or two every other year.

Solskjær is aware that United must quickly get out of the starting blocks next season and then there are a number of things that need to be improved from last year.

– We were very bad at home at the beginning of last season, but away we were undefeated. Now we have the fans back, and that will mean a lot to the players. It’s going to give players energy. The first tackle, the first shot will give players and fans energy.

Saturday’s meeting with Leeds United kicks off at 13.30 at Old Trafford.
