Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said members of Liverpool supporters threw coins at him during the match that saw his team lose 1-0 in the Premier League at Anfield on Sunday.
Guardiola said things were thrown in his direction after VAR nullified Phil Foden’s goal in the match that ended City’s unbeaten run since the start of the season.
“He tried to rally but they didn’t touch me. Maybe next time they’ll be better,” Guardiola told the BBC.
Meanwhile, Liverpool FC have condemned the “obscene” chants sung by some fans during the match.
“We are very disappointed to hear obscenities related to the football stadium tragedies during today’s game at Anfield. The foyer in the far section has also been vandalized with graphics of a similar nature,” the club said in a statement.
“We know the impact of such behavior on families, survivors and all those associated with these disasters,” he added.
“We are working with the relevant authorities and will also work with Manchester City in order to do everything possible to ensure that these chants are completely removed from football.”
Liverpool have also opened an investigation into the coin toss.
A club spokesperson said: “We are aware of an object-throwing incident in the technical area for today’s match. This is completely unacceptable behavior and does not meet the standards of behavior we expect at Anfield.”
“This incident will be fully investigated using CCTV and those found guilty will be punished, including life in prison from attending matches at Anfield and a possible disqualification order for football,” the spokesperson added.
Merseyside police said they were “working closely” with both clubs to investigate the incidents at Anfield.
“We learned of aggressive behavior during the Liverpool v Manchester City match and offensive graffiti was sprayed in the far section (field),” a police statement said.
“Such behavior will not be tolerated and we are working with both clubs to identify and bring to justice anyone found responsible for offensive behavior.”
deletion of the goal
Guardiola was furious that Foden’s second-half goal – which would have given his team the lead – had been overturned by VAR due to Erling Haaland’s foul on Fabinho.
Commenting on the coin toss, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said: “Oh, horrible. I’m sorry. I apologize for that. I had no idea it was. It should never, ever happen.”
Liverpool scored the three points after Mohamed Salah beat City goalkeeper Ederson, with a perfect shot 14 minutes before the game ended.
“We played a really good game, but this is a game with really good margins and mistakes are punishable,” said Guardiola.
“We made a mistake and we couldn’t admit it and that’s why we lost the game.”
“We played to win against Liverpool today, of course we played for that. After the 1-0 defeat, the fans screamed but we screamed more on the pitch.”
“The referee wanted the game to continue, and the game continued, and the game continued, there were a thousand million errors like this, and this error appeared because we scored a goal. So they canceled because we scored a goal. goals, otherwise it would have happened have not been canceled. “
