Liverpool opened the scoring early in the first half, with Egypt’s Mohamed Salah in the 5th minute, and defender Virgil Van Dyck added the second goal for the “Reds” in the 37th minute, so that the first session was ended with the “Reds” advancing (2-0).
In the second half, the Aston Villa players strengthened their attacking presence, putting goalkeeper Alison Becker in danger on more than one occasion, and pressure from the hosts resulted in a 59th-minute goal to close the gap by Olly Watkins.
The pressure from Villans continued, looking to score an equaliser, but the cohesiveness of the Liverpool defense prevented the result from changing.
And in the 79th minute German coach Jurgen Klopp included young Spanish player Stefan Patic as a substitute for Jordan Henderson, and it was only a few minutes before Patic managed to score the third goal for the visitors in the 81st minute in distinguished fashion, so that the match ended in victory for Liverpool (3-1).
With this win, Liverpool reached 25th point in 6th place and Aston Villa’s balance froze on 18th point in 12th place.
