Premier League, Leeds | Crystal Palace crushed Leeds, but experts are furious over the VAR decision

Crystal Palace won a landslide victory over Leeds, but it was a new VAR decision that got the attention.

CRYSTAL PALACE – LEEDS 4-1:

Crystal Palace delivered an impressive performance on Saturday afternoon. The London team beat Leeds 4-1, after goals by Dann, Eze, Ayew and own goals by Helder Costa. Bamford scored Leeds’ goal.

But once again, it was a VAR situation that got the attention. After 17 minutes, Bamford seemed to change their tactical approach a bit. But the ball was cleared off the boot of the defender, VAR.

The cancellation received violent reactions. On the replays, it could look as if Bamford was onside and that it was his arm that was offside. This made more people react.

– Bamford and half a meter onside = offside. Tragicomic, Brede Hangeland writes on Twitter.

Hangeland was supported by his former teammate Erik Nevland.

Gary Lineker was also concerned about the situation.

– There’s another idiotic VAR official decision that cancels Bamford’s goal. I actually hate the way it is implemented, he writes.

New rule

In TV 2’s Premier League studio during the break, Erik Thorstvedt tried to explain why Bamford was called offside. The former goalkeeper says that the rules have changed and that the upper part of the arm can now be offside after a change in the hands rules.

Simen Stamsø Møller nevertheless questioned whether it is possible to rely on the technology VAR uses.

– It is completely impossible to know where to put that line, said TV 2’s expert.

Free kick pearl

Crystal Palace took the lead at home after twelve minutes. Scott Dann rose to the top of the air on a corner and stabbed the ball in goal, via the crossbar.

Bamford thought a few minutes later that he had equalized, but the goal was canceled for offside by VAR.

After half-time in the first half, Crystal Palace increased the lead. Eze bent a free kick over the wall, hard and precise in goal to 2-0. Leeds goalkeeper Meslier had no chance on the youngster’s free kick.

Unlucky Costa

Five minutes later Leeds responded, and once again it was Bamford who got the ball in goal. The striker picked up a header from Klich, took the ball to his chest and knocked it the longest with his left foot.

Just before the break, Crystal Palace put in 3-1. Van Aanholt stormed down along the left side and struck into the field. Helder Costa threw himself down to block the post, but the Portuguese was unlucky and the ball crept into his own net.

Towards the end of the second half, Jordan Ayew punctured the match. Zaha pulled into the field and played to Ayew, who put the ball in goal to 4-1, via the goalkeeper and the post.

Crystal Palace thus climbed up to 6th place in the table, while Leeds is in 14th place in the Premier League table.
