“I’m not done here yet.” A sentence with a bang!
Cristiano Ronaldo said it. The Manchester United superstar is on a lap of honor at Old Trafford late Monday night after beating Brentford 3-0 – and is he screaming out his Red Devils whereabouts?
The speculation overturned immediately. Does Ronaldo actually stay under the new coach Erik ten Hag (52) and fulfill his contract (until 2023) with ManUnited? Or is he already leaving England after just one comeback season and 24 goals? Even back towards Real Madrid?
In any case, the Portuguese promptly denied this statement. “I didn’t say that,” he writes succinctly on his social media channels.
“Cristiano doesn’t want to play there”
In any case, United fans have reason to worry whether the aging megastar will spend another season with his heart club. The new manager ten Hag is said to be anything but a fan of aging stars. The Noch-Ajax coach would much rather build a team with young, fast attackers.
On Tuesday, after the win and a penalty against Brentford, Cristiano wrote on Instagram: «Once again great support from the stands. Let’s seize this opportunity to say thank you to our incredible fans who are going through a difficult season, always standing by our side and never letting us down. Thank you, your support means the world to us. Our goal is to get better every day so we can achieve what we all want: glory for ManUnited!”
Interim coach Ralf Rangnick (63) meanwhile believes that Ronaldo’s position could change in the second year: “I think the club should field two real strikers. And Cristiano is not that central attacker, he doesn’t want to play there.”
CR7 probably doesn’t want to play in the Conference League either. ManUtd are currently 6th in the Premier League and have two away games left (Brighton and Crystal Palace) to stay in 6th place and secure a place in the Europa League. (wst)
