Arsenal could cheer for three points, but the match is probably most remembered for what Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang did just before the break.
Martin Ødegaard got the chance to start on Saturday afternoon for the first time since October 18 when Arsenal beat Newcastle at the Emirates.
Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli scored two great goals which ensured that Mikel Arteta and co. struck back after the crushing 0-4 loss to Liverpool last round.
The match will also be remembered for what happened at the position 0-0 – five minutes before the break. The ball landed at Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang two meters from goal, who on the nearest open box knocked the ball into the post.
– For a boom of Aubameyang! Insane, said a shocked TV 2 commentator Endre Olav Osnes.
– So it is such a big chance that it is not possible, said TV 2 expert Solveig Gulbrandsen during the break.

Great possibilities
It was Ødegaard who came to the match’s first good opportunity. The Norwegian got a free kick of 22 meters, which he himself tried to bend up in the crossbar. Martin Dúbravka in the Newcastle cage, however, kept up with a good save.
A few minutes later, Jonjo Shelvey tried his luck from long range, but Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale got a hand up and hit the ball to the corner.
– A rough rescue, was the verdict from Osnes.
Five minutes before the break came the first opportunity of the first round. Dúbravka first saved a header from Emile Smith-Rowe, before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on the almost open box from two meters knocked the ball into the post.

Ten minutes after the break, however, it sat for the hosts after a nice attacking play. Smith-Rowe recorded for Nuno Tavares, who further found Saka on his way through. From an oblique angle, the 20-year-old knocked the ball down in the opposite corner.

A few minutes later, Saka had to leave with an injury. In came Martinelli, who immediately stood out when he doubled the lead on a full volley after being played through by Takehiro Tomiyasu.
There were no more goals. Thus, Ødegaard and Arsenal can cheer for three points.
