The management of the English Football League (EFL) is facing pressure from clubs to investigate the actions of FC Liverpool in connection with the coronavirus infection in the team after the statement of coach Jürgen Klopp. He admitted that the initially positive tests of most players turned out to be negative.
Early reports from Liverpool spoke of the outbreak of a large-scale coronavirus outbreak that had postponed last week’s League Cup semifinal match with Arsenal London.
“The Reds” performed the first round of tests by the LFD method, the second by the PCR method in an independent laboratory, both of which yielded a number of positive results. But the third round of tests, conducted shortly after the postponement of the cup duel, revealed that the infected players were in fact negative.
According to Klopp, only defender Trent Alexander-Arnold actually infected the virus. According to The Athletic, false positive LFD tests are very rare. “Last week we reported an outbreak, but it turned out that the players were false positive. But the rules are the rules and not all false positives could play.” revealed a German coach.
His words angered competing English clubs. They ask Liverpool for an explanation of how this information came about. If “The Reds” learned of the false positivity before the fight with Arsenal, they said the match should have taken place on time.
According to The Athletic, clubs are pushing EFL to investigate the situation. Several of them have requested a postponement of meetings for COVID-19 this season, but the league has rejected their request. Some clubs require a heavy penalty for Liverpool.
