Premier League 2024-25: Solanke scores as Tottenham beat Brentford

Striker Dominic Solanke scored his first goal for Tottenham Hotspur as Ange Postecoglou’s side fought back from a first-minute deficit to beat Brentford 3-1 in the Premier League on Saturday.

Brian Mbeumo’s acrobatic volley stunned the home fans but £65 million ($86.59 million) signing Solanke calmed the opposition when he scored in the eighth minute.

Brennan Johnson put Tottenham ahead after 28 minutes but Tottenham’s lead was vulnerable in the second half before James Maddison set up Son Heung-min to make it 3-1.

Tottenham’s second win of the season moved them up to 10th on seven points from five games, while Brentford, who have six points, dropped to 12th.

Everton tied with Leicester for the season

Struggles Everton missed the chance to win their first Premier League game of the season when Iliman Ndiaye’s first-half goal was cancelled out by the Foxes’ Steph Mavididi as they drew 1-1 at Leicester City on Saturday.

Ndiaye finished off a fine move to give Everton the lead in the 12th minute, after receiving a pass from Ashley Young and slotting the ball over goalkeeper Mads Hermansen through two defenders.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who has scored two Premier League goals this season, saw his shot clear on Hermansen’s counter-attack before Harry Winks’ corner led to a shot in the Everton box and Mavididi fired home in the 73rd minute.

Everton are 19th with one point from five games and some fans are already fearing a fourth successive relegation battle. Leicester are 15th with three points from five games.
