Premier Combat by Jean Moulin: A Reading at the Theater in Pieces of Chartres

The Theater in Pieces of Chartres (Eure-et-Loir) presents its reading Combataccording to Premier Combat by Jean Moulin this Saturday November 11, 2023 at 7 p.m. in the Marceau salon at City Hall.

A reading as part of the closing evening “Cycle Jean Moulin Vivant!” » with Emmanuel Ray and Léa Bertogliati on cello.

A month among many others…

A month among many others. A city similar to the others, overwhelmed by a crowd of refugees, was simultaneously emptied of its own inhabitants. A few defeated combat units, in retreat, still cross it.

They are soon followed by the first detachments of the victors. Left almost alone at his post, a young man, a lover of the arts, is summoned by those who claim to be victorious. They want to force him to sign a lying text damaging the honor of the defeated army. This dramatic story, whose simplicity is its strength, enters the great book of all resistance.

Emmanuel RayDirector, Theater in Pieces

“I wanted to adapt the text Premier Combat by Jean Moulin. A wonderfully written text and adapted a thousand times already for the theater and yet, we come back to it” summarizes Emmanuel Ray again.

Play Jean Moulin

The director and actor wanted to embody this character “and yet it seems important to me to make him anonymous. A man among many others. A man, a woman… “

In this adaptation there will no longer be a question of Chartres, nor of Jean Moulin “but of a text evoking all acts of Resistance, big or small, knowing that each of us can be afraid, we can make mistakes. We are not infallible. But, when it comes to making certain decisions, how can they be made with the good of all in mind? »

Doing your duty in the face of danger

One sentence matters to me, a sentence said by Jean Moulin: “ I didn’t know it was so easy when we are in danger to do one’s duty.»
